VITALWEEKLY number 941  about Boring Drug 2C E:

The size is approximate here. It might be a little over a 7". This is not vinyl or lathe cut, but pressed on Polycaprolactone Polymer (PCL) and is 'biodegradable and recyclable', so finally a musical format something that is good for the environment (following perhaps only cassettes, which you can re-use over and over again). Boring Drug is a band including a bunch of synthesizer players, percussion, theremin and although not mentioned, maybe also a guitar. They play an introspective song on this one sided record which is nice, but what makes it nicer is the material it is pressed on. Remember those recordings of say Rachmaninov playing piano as recorded on a wax cylinder? (Maybe you don't, but my father had a bunch of CDs with those recordings, so I do) This record sounds exactly like that. It's if someone poured a full content of a vacuum cleaner over this record, but if you are open minded you could also say this adds an extra layer, a sound effect plus to the music, or, it makes it sound very 'ancient', like a Doctor Who recording from 1899. I hate to use such words, but this is a totally unique package. 100 copies made and I bet they sound all different. Somebody should into business offering this record cutting (literally!) business to others. (FdW).

"Z MIEJSCA GDZIE WODA JEST WSZĘDZIE..." - Marcin Dymiter
 (14.5.2017)

8" transparent disc, 33 copies

AltanovaPress has the honor to present: "From where the water is everywhere…" (z miejsca gdzie woda jest wszędzie…) by Marcin Dymiter one of the most interesting polish sound/field/recording Artist to discover… www.field-notes.pl

The analog hand made record was realized in 33 copies, numbered edition, each one is different and can reveal some sound imperfections… or loops as well as lo & hi-fis, just like every other earlier AltanovaPress gramophone record.
Cover is printed without paint on recycled paper and typeset machines in Dom Słów theatre NN in city Lublin, by Sebastian Buczek.

"POGORZELEC"
- Sebastian Buczek
 (2.10.2012)

one side, 8", limited edition, first production of Altanova Press

A U T H O R A B O U T " P O G O R Z E L E C " :

The first disc engraved and still pressed by AltanovaPress project is "Pogorzelec" (Burnt) eight-inch single-sided analog record. It is my second after "Alluring Virgins" (released by Mik Musik in 2001) and the first project related to the reproduction of sound.
Because of (Lo-Fi) experience and my vivid interest in field of primitive recording technics, "Pogorzelec" turned to be an ideal experimental material, for such a purpose.

Plate was recorded with a pointed nail. Sheet of metal was coated with beeswax. Waxy surface gained conductivity by imposing a layer of silver and copper. The matrix produced in electroplating process turned out to be capable to reproduce and multiply sounds. Concentric grooves contain music and noise, which can be hear if we examine it on a turntable. Then you can taste the sound, it is realy warm Lo-Fi. Clarinet melody and mood, wax noise. Played at rate of 33/3rpm, its remind of "morning vikings fogs", so at 45 rate you can find the reminiscence of Napoleonic campaigns defeat, or sorrow of burnt.

S O M E O F A D D I T I O N A L R E M A R K S :

"Pogorzelec" a very bad record, it is in fact standardts-killer that the music industry worked out for decades of pressing analog records. Surprisingly the disc can be played on a modern turntable. However, because of the shallow grooves, needle of turntable with irregular antiskating will tend to skip. Those who have turntable with auto stop will not be able to hear the last part of the song. The holders of a turntable without this limitation, will as a result of decreasing angular velocity hear treble or even medium tons distorsions seize in the final part of the record.

Disappointment for those used to high quality, may be the fact that the album will sometimes loop. The disc can be smaller than the matrix, in such case it will have cake-shape and the first seconds of record will not give the play. Copies of these may have been melted down, but I found them so full of charm, and it's easier to hide it in an envelope. Oh. I almost forgot small inconvenience, due to the irregular shapes putting some of the larger specimens to the envelope can be puzzle.
Do not be afraid tuching the groove surface with fingers!

R E C Y C L I N G I N S T R U C T I O N S

The list of disadvantages could still continue.
The only thing I can suggest is to treat them as if they were virtues.
I encourage you to recycle the disc at home.
To do so, a bowl of water with a temperature of 70 degrees Celsius is needed. We can put it in hot water or cut a part of it with scissors. This will make the PCL soft and easy to forming. After cool down it will become hard again. The process can be repeated many times. Therefore, the material must never trash, because it can always be converted into something else. This I strongly recomend when You become bored with the song.

If, however, we decided to throw a disc or PCL in the trash, or into the sea, the river, or we bury it in the ground, bacteria and viruses (in a few months), decompose it into water and carbon dioxide, unlike it happens with known plastics.

Quality (Lo-Fi)
's no guarantee satisfaction possible but uncertain;)
I wish you lots of fun and creative experiences while using the plates!

Sebastian Buczek
